Taiwan Finds Crashed Chinese Balloon: The controversy over the Chinese balloon is not taking its name. Amid a dispute between China and the US over spy balloons, Taiwan’s military said on Thursday (February 16) that it had found the remains of the balloon on a strategically located island off the Chinese coast.
Taiwan’s army has linked the remains to a Chinese balloon. Taiwan Military has said that it is a weather balloon and it is likely to be related to China.
Taiwan got the remains of Chinese balloon
The Taiwanese military said late on Thursday an unidentified object was seen falling from the sky over the Taiwan-controlled Matsu Islands near China’s Fuzhou coast. The remains of a balloon were later found at a shooting range. The army said that the balloon is about 1 meter in diameter. It has a tool box, which is used only in China.
What did Taiwan’s army say?
In a statement, Taiwan’s military said, “Preliminary investigations have shown that the remains contained meteorological information detection equipment, which have been collected by the relevant departments for further evaluation.” China has been claiming Taiwan as its share. Taiwan has complained several times in the last three years about the increasing activities by the Chinese army. The Taiwan Army alleges that Chinese fighter jets and drones have been flown near the island.
Military balloons seen many times
Even before this, Taiwan had revealed that Chinese military balloons were seen flying in its airspace several times. Taiwan alleges that espionage is being done through these balloons. Taiwan had earlier also expressed apprehension that dozens of balloons were being used to collect data in preparation for a possible attack.
